Nambu Tekki Teapot

Model and video animation of a traditional Japanese Nambu cast iron kettle.

This is a personal project I did when I was a 3D generalist intern. I created this animation in an effort to practice modelling, material animation and steam simulation.

Made at Bruto Studio.

Subdivision surface modelling

I created this model in Cinema 4D, starting in low-poly mode and then I visualised it with a subdivision surface.

Putting on materials the right way

To create differing material properties throughout the model, I UV-mapped it. This way, I could decide exactly where to put the bumps on the material as well as animate specific material properties, such as the bumps appearing in the beginning of the video.

Work smart not hard

Using Redshift renderer, I created the high-poly look with a Redshift tag for the purpose of speeding up the process and relieving my graphics card of processing all too many polygons.

Everything but the steam is created in Cinema 4D and Redshift. The steam is made with Houdini. See final result in wide format below.
